With art supplies (and my attention and time) spread between two houses in two states, it is time to step back and re-group. Once the move is complete I will be back with more photos and new artwork. Hope you will all check in every so often... and I will be keeping up with visits to see what everyone is up to! Till later.........
Letters swallow themselves in seconds.
Notes friends tied to the doorknob,
transparent scarlet paper,
sizzle like moth wings,
marry the air.
So much of any year is flammable,
lists of vegetables, partial poems.
Orange swirling flame of days,
so little is a stone.
Where there was something and suddenly isn’t,
an absence shouts, celebrates, leaves a space.
I begin again with the smallest numbers.
Quick dance, shuffle of losses and leaves,
only the things I didn’t do
crackle after the blazing dies.
Day One: (May your days be) Shiny and Bright!
Kris, one of my favorite artists and friend over at brain-bubbles, is continuing the disintigration collaboration created by Seth (of Altered Page fame).

My first bundle was formed into a copper mesh envelope of sorts, filled with various small metal objects and adorned with a silver bird. Several mesh streamers are attached with eyelets. It is attached to a paper text bundle, wrapped with copper wire and hung from a tree with kitchen twine. As we usually have several major snowstorms each winter, it will be interesting to see the changes that evolve over the next few months. I fear the paper will not fare well but perhaps the inner layers will provide some challenging elements to incorporate into future artwork.
I am planning on forming another bundle to leave at the new house to see what variety the climate differences create.

I have been totally enamored with digital collage lately. These pages are for a nature journal collaboration and are headed to Corrie for her little 4 x 4 journal.
1. For my oh-so-patient, understanding, funny, honorable and (even after 36 years) very handsome husband.
2. For my grown sons that each complete my life in very different, but wonderful, ways.
3. For my friends, who have loved me warts and all, and have remained steadfast and true even during my darkest days. Thank you for allowing me into your lives.

I remember showing this photograph to Dad, a few short weeks before he passed away last year. We were going through box after box of old family photos and when we came upon this one, he asked "where was that taken?". When I told him that it was our own kitchen, right in the next room to where he was sitting, he was not to be convinced. As I pointed out the familiar doorways and window, and reminded him that we had renovated the kitchen so that it now looked much different, he only shook his head.. saddened that he could not remember. But then with his customary little grin, he simply gazed at it one last time, and as he tossed it aside, he said "well, wherever it was, I was one good looking devil, wasn't I?" Yes Dad... you surely were.
Missing you this long one year and loving you always.

Cardstock envie: embellished with vintage text, fern, lucite charm with flower transfer and a "faux tintype" made with photo transfer onto heavy piece of tin.
Insert: one of my photos printed onto watercolor paper with written text.

I have added a photo album of the some of the journal pages done each morning, sitting with mug of coffee in hand, watching the lobster boats haul in their traps and the gulls swooping in for a hoped-for errant treat!

In May 2008 I became part of a collaborative of mixed-media artists involved in a project named "Ties That Bind", whose goal was to raise funds for ovarian cancer research. Their mission statement was as follows:
Our mission is simple in concept. Artists united in their creativity to benefit Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Our project: Ties That Bind. A hand made doll created with heart and soul, donning hand embellished men's dress ties and hand born charms. 100% of the profit goes to the OCRF, in support of their mission to help ovarian cancer patients and their loved ones.
My contribution to this project was a handpainted and collaged necktie, which eventually became part of the art doll's skirt:
The completed art doll is now being raffled off, with all proceeds to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. You can read in detail about the project here:

A few months ago a round robin altered book collaborative ended after 1 1/2 years of books traveling from New England to Alaska (and states in between) and then on to places far and wide in Australia.I am now able to finally post some of the work I did in various books. These 8x8 pages were for Karen, whose theme was "Faces"...

8x8 paper collage

Many months ago I gathered together a small group of artist friends with the intent of creating a long-term collaborative project ~ and Magpie Arts was born.
Over the course of one year we worked on a themed deck of large cards, weekly producing wonderful and unique mini art canvases. We each then designed our own creative containers to house the finished 52 cards.
Fast forward to this month, when we have the great fortune to have our finished projects included in LK Ludwig's newest book, Collaborative Art Journals and Shared Visions in Mixed Media.

This beautifully published book houses a collection of diverse collaborative projects and provides inspiration and insight into talented artists like LK, Elizabeth Bunsen and Katie Kendrick.

Just to give you a little perspective, Moose (my Pug) is not what you want to call "petite". Sophie is equal in size, though not girth. Do you think I should warn Moose what his future holds?

Meet Sophie - Bernese Mountain Dog - 9 weeks old - paws the size of Texas...we are in love.
After many months of prodding, urging and pleading bordering on begging... dear friend Melissa has finally surrendered graciously decided to grace the blog world with her wonderful artwork, wry sense of humor and observations on life... all in a neat little package she has christened Red Tape.
